Actress, Advocates, Survivors Testify for Stricter Domestic Violence Laws
Almost two years since the disappearance of New Canaan mom Jennifer Dulos, her memory was front in center of Wednesday’s virtual judiciary committee public hearing.
The committee is currently reviewing bills addressing domestic violence, including SB 1060, what’s known as Jennifers’ Law.
The law also memorializes Jennifer Magnano, a Connecticut mom who was murdered by her husband in 2007 in front of her young kids, according to the group Connecticut Protective Moms.
The committee started listening to emotional testimony from many Connecticut residents, advocates, and beyond beginning at 10 a.m. As of 6 p.m., the public hearing still continued.

Connecticut Senator Introduces Jennifer's Law in Honor of New Canaan Mother Jennifer Dulos
Connecticut Senator Alex Kasser and National Domestic Violence Advocates Introduce "Jennifer's (Dulos) Law" for 2021 Legislative Session
Connecticut Protective Moms announces that Connecticut Senator Alex Kasser has introduced "Jennifer's Law" for the 2021 Legislative session. The bill is named in honor of Jennifer Dulos, the New Canaan, Connecticut, mother who went missing and was suspected of being allegedly murdered by her husband while she was pleading for her and her children's safety in family court. The focus of the bill is to prioritize the safety of Domestic Violence (DV) victims and their children by updating and modernizing the definition of DV in Connecticut state law to include Coercive Control - a pattern of abuse which is not necessarily physical that isolates, dominates and intimidates a victim into submission through an intimidating and threatening pattern of behavior. California, Washington and Hawaii have passed similar coercive control bills.
